"In this article I am going to discuss the ways in which you can generate leads for your business. However, I am going to pay particular attention to the reasons why you should focus on various ways to generate leads rather than putting all your eggs in one basket.

Generating leads for your business is all about driving visitors or traffic to your particular web page. That might be a squeeze page or it might be a sales page. If you are wanting to have a means of developing a strong relationship with your leads then driving traffic to a squeeze page is the best option.

When marketing your business online the best way to drive traffic to your squeeze page is by creating some form of content that people will be able to have access to. This might be a written article, a video, a slide presentation, a podcast, there are many different ways that you can use content to drive traffic to your squeeze page.

Although I don't believe that you should try too many streams of traffic I do believe that it is important to have a few traffic sources and at least one that you have control over.

Trying out lots of traffic sources can become quite confusing when it comes to tracking your results and understanding which traffic source is actually bringing in buyers for your business. Therefore if you spend your time and energy trying out lots of different traffic sources you will quite quickly become burdened with the amount of effort involved.

If you focus on two or three traffic sources it becomes far easier to manage and for you to begin to understand which of those traffic sources is bringing in the best results.

Doing it this way you are able to master your traffic source and that is key to your success.

However, as I have already mentioned you need to use at least one traffic source that you have control over.

Suppose you are using Facebook ads to drive traffic, what happens when Facebook shuts down if that were to happen? Your traffic source would be gone overnight.

What if you are using forum marketing to drive your traffic and the forum owner shuts the site down? Again your traffic source disappears.

One of your traffic sources must be a website that you own yourself. Since you own your website you know that it will be there for the long term and is not about to suddenly become shut down.

Using your own website to drive traffic does take time because you are relying on Google and other search engines to help bring traffic to your site. Many people try to speed up their search engine traffic by optimising their sites and using search engine optimisation tricks to increase the likelihood of people having visibility of their site when they perform a particular search.

You need to be very careful when doing this because the search engines change the way that they bring up search results constantly and therefore if you are relying on a particular trick you could be in a situation where your search engine traffic disappears when there is an update.

Therefore when you use your website to drive traffic you must make sure that you write your content for your visitors and not the search engines. When you create content this way you automatically include the important words and phrases that people would naturally be searching for if they wanted help that your particular content could provide.

Therefore when thinking about generating leads, one of the ways must include your own website and then look at a few other reputable websites to use as a way to generate instant traffic.
