Understanding Keywords and Content to Get Found on Google

"There are a lot of business people who believe that they understand and know what SEO is and how to achieve good Google search engine results. The fact is that there are so many factors that have an influence over how a webpage gets good search result placement and with so many changes to the way in which Google analyses and assesses how a webpage should be ranked, it is becoming more difficult to know what to do unless you understand what it is that Google is really looking for.

There are as many so called SEO experts that think that they have the answers as there are pebbles on a beach. Everyone is an expert these days. There is a common myth that the Google keyword tool is the way to find keywords that will deliver visitors and all you have to do is optimise your webpages with those keywords.

What I say is this; "if you get to the top spot and are number one for a keyword that you have been led to believe is popular, don't be surprised if you get no visitor traffic or very little". The reason is that the Google keyword tool is only a guide as to what could be achieved, not an absolute of what will happen.

There is a lot more to good SEO than just finding keywords, sure keywords are a vital part of the process but it's really all about what Google is looking for in a webpage.

It's all about content that carefully describes what the webpage is about. Imagine having a book that you have been told is a best seller and has a killer cover with a very illustrative picture - presumably showing what the book is about and upon opening it you discover that there is very little in the way of words on the pages in fact most of the pages only have a few sentences and they don't really tell the story - well a website is much the same and Google wants to be able to deliver a result that meets your search criteria and has value to you.

The webpages must tell the story and offer real value to the visitor looking for information about the product or service that they have searched for and found.

That's exactly what Google is looking for, a great story that describes in rich detail what the webpage is about and has lots of value to offer. Yes there might be some pictures to illustrate the points being discussed or shown, but the main emphasis is on the content and content is king.
