Spending Time After The Employees Leads To Better Management Of Business

"A manager is responsible for managing the team allotted to him or her. The basic job of a manger is to manage employees, and when the manager says it is difficult to do so, it raises questions regarding the managerial abilities possessed by the person. The last thing a manger should say is "I don't have the time". However, in fact many managers refrain from doing so, because they know it could impair their job profile. It is important for them to organize themselves, so they can justify their take home pay. Here are a few pointers which can help you manage people in a more efficient way.

  • Keeping individual records for each employee

This may seem to be obvious, but in reality, very few managers actually do it. Majority of the organizations don't even maintain a filing system which caters to their employees. They generally make do with a manila folder with the employee's name scribbled on it. All documents pertaining to the particular employee are kept inside the envelop. While it may sound inefficient, the positive thing is at least some efforts are made to retain and store the employee records. Ideally, monthly evaluation sheets should be maintained and stored under each employee's folder. Periodically, assessments should be carried out to evaluate the employee's performance. This is where an organized retrieval system can prove to be useful. Non-performing candidates should be discontinued from their duties and replace with new ones.

  • Using a daily activity log

One of the common problems faced by managers is the backlog that keeps on piling up. Unfinished work leads to reduced productivity, which in turn reduces the company's profit making capacity. Maintaining a daily log of work allotted and work accomplished can lead to a reduction of the backlog. Of course, the manager needs to review each log on a daily basis, and prompt the employee to clear the backlog. It is important to know that it is essential to determine the extent of backlog before it can be cleared.

  • Schedule regular meetings

Managers often complain scheduling daily meeting tends to waste time. While it is true, managers should realize that daily checks could keep the employees on their toes, and force them to complete work on time. While considering the time spent in conducting the meeting, the manager more than makes up in terms of daily work contributed by each employee. A face-to-face contact always makes a difference. It leads to increased business working and healthier business productivity.
