"Just as an architect will design a house and a builder will construct it, creating a website does require expertise in web programming and standards, as well as an understanding about the production of internet information. But, there are some fairly straight forward ways to get started.

First you have to register your website with a domain name (just like registering your regular business name) and find somebody to host the website (just like paying rent or buying a physical premises for your business).

There are plenty of very good service providers on the web that provide website domain registration, hosting and some also provide website building. You will have to pay for your domain registration and hosting but the website building templates are generally free and created via generic templates. You can, of course, pay for extra privileges and perks should you require them.

Alternatively, you may choose to find a website building company to help you build your own webpage, who will charge a fee for their services. These webpage designers give support from ideas to domain registration. Also they have the knowledge and experience to generate a website completely from scratch, from basic HTML (Hyper Text-Markup Language - which form the building blocks of all websites); to XML (Extensible Markup Language - which is designed to transport and store data); and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets - which is used to create the look and formatting of website page).

Next, you have to think how a visitor to your website will interact with it. A good website redirects the user to where they are meant to proceed after clicking on a tab or link on the website. Any information should take no more than three clicks fro a user to find. Furthermore, the easier it is to use, the better. A webpage has good subject material, but poor layout and organisation is confusing and will deter users. Always keep the website visitor in mind when generating a website.

Good content is a crucial element of a webpage. As a general rule, when writing for a website, your content should be quick and relevant. Most internet users usually skim for facts and do not read through all the content.

Finally, you have to generate traffic to your website, which is a whole different story. Without traffic, you will struggle to build a customer base, generate revenue, or even build an online brand of your own.
