Is This Right For Me and Is It Worth My Time and Money?

"Making decisions about whether or not to use the services of a coach or a consultant, or to attend a workshop, a class or a retreat to help with the success of your business can be challenging. The two big questions are - Is this right for me and is it worth my time and money? You need to be convinced that you'll get a great return on your investment.

Here's a four step analysis method that will help you with the tough decisions.

Step one is determining if you even need help? A good way to determine that is to ask yourself five questions.

1. Am I achieving everything I want from my business? 2. Does my business give me the freedom I want in my life? 3. Am I fully prepared to react quickly and effectively to changes in the market, in the economy, and to regulations? 4. Am I making all the money I want? 5. Am I having fun building and running my business?

Answering NO to one or more of these questions is an indication that you could use some help.

Step two is deciding if you want help? By the way, there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help. Nobody makes it alone in business. Getting the best help possible is a very smart decision.

However, some business owners and managers prefer to work on problems and challenges on their own when they have the time. That approach works every now and then, but not very often.

I don't mean to be callous and I'm not saying this as a scare tactic. It's just a fact. Not getting help when needed, is precisely why so many small businesses fail in the first few years. It just doesn't have to be that way.

Step three is the big one - justifying the investment of your money and your time. Money is always a huge concern. And since time is the most valuable commodity we have, it's also very important. "Can I afford it?" "Will I get a good return on my investment?" "Can I get my money back if it doesn't work out?" "Can I afford the time?"

All good questions, but there are others that need to be asked as well. "Am I getting the increased business I want from my advertising?" "How much money does it cost me to hire the wrong person?" "How much time and money is wasted in salaries and wages paid to people for attending meetings that aren't productive?" "How much money is spent paying for the time it takes me and/or others to resolve problems that shouldn't have happened in the first place?" "How much time and money is wasted resolving customer issues that shouldn't have occurred?"

If you really want to use someone's services or you really want to attend a class, workshop or retreat, but you have time and money concerns, pick up the phone, make a call, and ask the tough questions.

Talk to the person who can help you out. If he or she isn't available and you don't receive a return call within 24 hours, don't go any further. When you do make contact, get all the answers you need to help you become comfortable with your decision. If you really want what's being offered but you need some financial considerations, ask for them. Make sure you're completely comfortable before saying YES.

Step four is to determine if you'll actually put the information to use. Information, regardless of how valuable it is, is just information until you use it correctly. You have to be committed to use what you learn for the benefit of your business.

If you really want to learn the skills required for building and running a business successfully and you're committed to put what you learn to work in your business, then always take advantage of the opportunity.
