Build Backlinks by Blogging

"When I first started the first of my weblogs shortly after the beginning of the year 2011, article marketing was as alien to me as the HTML I would learn 3 months later. Many beginning and intermediate internet marketers are, of course, in similar shoes.

After spending an hour or two crafting my well-thought-out and informative posts for my website, I used to happily post them and begin work on my next blog-post, certain that the voracious Google reader robot would eventually stumble upon such fine handiwork.

Completely ignorant of what it took to get my stuff out there to the reading public, imagine my frustration when months later, my Blogger Dashboard would tell me that about ten people had stopped by to bother in the past few months!

Thank goodness I figured it out eventually. Article marketing is simply one of the best - and, in some cases, the best - methods for attracting visitors to your website.

Comparing it a real-life, physical business with a storefront address, article marketing is something like leaving business cards in various high-visibility places, where people can pick them up and call, or drop by to check you out. Indeed; article marketing is actually a super-charged version of this, and not merely because the reach of the articles is far greater (potentially bringing in visitors from around the world), but also because it is presumably targeted.

Leaving business cards everywhere requires a lot of effort on your part, for a low statistical return; marketing your articles in high-volume article directories is anything but, because the "right" people will automatically be actively searching for them.

Undoubtedly, the best thing about article marketing is the two-way attack it delivers in the battle for website ranking and visitor acquisition:

1. Direct traffic. Simply put, your article - if it's about something people are looking for; and obviously there are so many things of interest out there, that this is bound to be the case for anything you can think of - will be read by people, as long as you submit it to an article directory with a high Page Rank.

For example, if an article directory gets a million visitors per month, all looking for various things, and you get published in said directory, then the potential is obvious. Compare this to your website, which is lost in a cauldron of similar websites; this simply can't beat the traffic the directory already obtains on average, long before you got there. Marketing your article can paint a big red target on your website.

2. Search engine optimization. When it comes to article marketing, just because you successfully submit your article to a high Page Rank article directory doesn't mean it will be read; after all, if you write on a subject that interest very few people, this would be expected - it's all statistical anyway.

Does that mean you shouldn't submit future articles on the same subject? The answer to this is a resounding NO! Submit your site anyway. The reason for this is that the links in your article pointing back to your site give you what is often called "link juice". People may not read the article, but the robots that scan the web-pages of just about every single site on the World Wide Web will read it. And they will rank your website according to the quality of the article directories into which it's accepted.

This will have the effect of allowing your website to rocket past other websites, where it may very well get to the front page of Google, Yahoo or Bing. And that can only ever be a good thing. Unless you're blogging about State secrets.
